Spotlight: Hurley Phantom Series

Continuing on our path to warmer weather, I bring you the Hurley Phantom Series boardshorts. The Phantoms are the most comfortable boardshorts money can buy.  They will cost a little more than your usual pair of Corona boardshorts from Target, but they will last a lot longer and they are much cooler than anything else on the market.  These boardshorts don’t hold water and they dry much faster than conventional trunks. All three of the pairs range in their fit and how much stretch they contain.  Each pair is different, but they are all equally revolutionary.  The rest of the story after the break.

Phantom 120 w/ Nike Flywire

Nike recently bought Hurley, so it’s only right that they use one of Nike’s latest lightweight technology. Meet the Phantom 120; Hurley’s most expensive, most stretchy pair of boardshorts to date.  How expensive are they?  Does $200 dollars seem expensive to you?  They are all black and are made using Nike’s lightweight “Flywire.”  Even though these are super cool and they are a collab of two of my favorite brands; I really don’t think it’s worth it to spend $200 dollars on a simple pair of boardshorts. What do you think?

Phantom 60 Kings Road (Dk Denim 2)

I was first introduced to the Kings Road boardshort last year and I was blown away.  My first pair had the same pattern just different colors and I was hooked.  They have a 21 inch inseam which falls right above my knee and they feel amazing in and out of the water, because of their 60% stretch.  Most people think stretch shorts are only for surfing, but just swimming in the water is a wonderful experience.  It feels like you aren’t wearing short at all.  This years colors are even better than last years, with the addition of grey, black and white color.

Phantom Twin Fin

I spent all last year looking for a pair of boardshorts with a shorter inseam. This year I have found what I wanted.  The Twin Fin has a 20 inch inseam and 80’s surf styling.  I would like to think that the designers got their inspiration from the 80’s cult surfing movie “North Shore.” The main protagonist has a twin fin short board with similar colors like the shorts; or they just used the 80’s as a reference for the design. Either way they came up with some damn good looking shorts.  They aren’t labeled Phantom in the title, but they do have the Phantom 60% stretch. The Twin Fin doesn’t cost nearly as much as the Kings Road, but it’s ever bit as cool.
