Spotlight: kidrobot The Simpsons Figures

I am a huge Simpsons fan.  I have watched the show from the beginning, collected memorabilia and I am dangerous at Simpsons trivia.  When I first heard about the kidrobot collection I freaked out.  Then when I found out it was a blind box collection I thought, “what’s a blind box?” For those who don’t know, a blind box means you don’t know what you are going to get.  So in order to collect these figures you have to just keep buying them and hope you don’t get the same figure. That’s what makes collecting these so fun and nerve racking.  There are 2 series so far and most of the main characters have been released.  Let’s take a look at some of the characters from series 1 and 2, right after the break.

Series 1

This series focused on bringing out all the main and recurring characters.  The entire Simpsons family is available along with; Chief Wiggum, Barney, Apu, Sideshow Bob, Krusty, Itchy and Scratchy, Duff Man, Smithers, Mr. Burns and so on. There are some real stand outs like; Hippie Homer, Devil Flanders, Mr. Teeny and Funzo.  Some of the characters are super rare and the only way to acquire them is on eBay, but for a lot more then retail.  The first series goes for 7.95 now and can be found at Urban Outfitters.

Series 2

This series started on October 29, 2010 and they raised the price to 9.99.  They added more secondary characters and turned the Simpsons in to Zombie and a Mariachi band.  The stand out secondary characters are Grandpa, Hans Moleman, Lester, Carl, Lenny and Groundkeeper Willie.  I’m still working on this collection, only because I don’t live that close to an Urban Outfitters.  These are available on eBay if you want to skip  the fun and heartbreak.

This kind of collecting is really only for the die hard fans.  You have to be crazy to spend 8-10 dollars on something that isn’t guaranteed to be the figure you need.  I find it fun and challenging; I like to hold the box and listen to what I hear and try to determine which character is inside.  It is very satisfying when you crack open a new box and find the character inside is one that you need.  You get a real sense of accomplishment.
