I know I mostly talk about t-shirts here, but a co-worker bought this shirt and I just loved the different look. First thing you notice is the red patches on the elbows, like a classic corduroy jacket with leather patches on the elbows. You can feel like a professor even though you are a student or just some guy who once went to school. He said the shirt fits awesome and he also has had no prior experience with Freshjive; he didn’t even know they existed in the 90’s. Granted they didn’t have the selection they have now, but it was a pretty good t-shirt brand, back in the day. The shirt also had a great plaid pattern, sometimes a shirt can be ruined by an ugly plaid pattern. It’s got a thinner plaid pattern and the lines look blurry from far away, it’s a nice little trick. I also love that this shirt is an oxford style with buttons on the collar. This shirt is available on Karmaloop, but if you Pac Sun is a test store, they should have this brand in stock. Just ask next time you venture in the store. This shirt is great for dresser occasions or if you just want to class it up during the winter months.

Freshjive Hopper Tee
Dennis Hopper was a movie legend. He was in some very memorable rolls; like “Waterworld,” “True Romance” and “Easy Rider.” Sadly Dennis Hopper died May of this year, and what better way to remember a screen legend then to wear him on a t-shirt. Granted he does look crazy and disheveled in this photo, but I wouldn’t have my Dennis Hopper any other way. He was known for his crazy, eccentric roles and this photo captures that, plus a slight innocence and shyness. I have a Richard Pryor tee and the photo has a picture of Pryor shrugging his shoulders; it shows a certain playfulness most actors don’t like to display in most photos. I love photos on tees and I really love photos of celebrities in curious poses or even vintage mug shots; it shoes a realistic side to people we hold in high esteem. Thank you Freshjive for reading my thoughts and creating those thoughts into t-shirts; actually the fact that you can read my thoughts is really scary and I will need some money for the rights to my thought t-shirt.
Freshjive K9 T-Shirt
The last post, Top 5 Cardigans, I posted my first piece of Freshjive clothing I had seen since the 90’s. Back in the day, Freshjive consisted of pretty basic t-shirts that played off of brand designs. The one that comes to mind is a shirt that looked like Tide, but replaced with Freshjive. It worked in its day, but today’s t-shirt connoisseur has a need for a more creative design. The K9 is using a very popular design, the black and white photograph. When it’s used with a cute animal, it makes the design even better. I love this shirt because it reminds me of my own dog and I love to pull my dogs lips up, like in the picture. This shirt is pretty soft, not tri-blend soft but soft enough that it caught my attention. They look like they run pretty small so I would try a size up. I first found the shirt in white, but after minimal research I found that the shirt also comes in black. Freshjive is a great example of a brand stepping up their game. Brands need to add more art and photographs to their t-shirts. You here me out there other brands? Step up your game or sink farther into t-shirt hell!

Top 5–Cardigan Sweaters for winter 2010
Cardigans are the best way to wear a sweater, whether it’s cashmere, wool or cotton. You can wear it open or closed and it goes great with any t-shirt. Are you excited that we get to layer up? It’s not about a thick or thin sweater, it’s just about loving a good winter sweater
#5 – Black Scale Tuxedo Cardigan
I am not very familiar with Black Scale, but after searching through their catalogue it’s looking like something I would happily wear. The sweater is just a simple cardigan, aside from being red, that you could easily match with many different tees and jeans. Once I find a store that sells Black Scale, I will let you know how it fits.
#4 – Abercrombie & Fitch Goodnow Mountain Sweater
I know most people hate Abercrombie because they are pretentious and a little naked, at times. Well I don’t think so, it’s only because I used to work for the company and I had a pretty great experience . I have always had a soft spot for the clothes and they are very well made. This sweater is your typical thick, wool, cable knit sweater. Good for keeping warm by a fire and super stylish. Just imagine hanging at a ski lodge, sipping a glass of scotch and getting ready to make sweet love to a snow bunny. It’s like that everyday if you lived in an Abercrombie ad. Either way this sweater is an awesome addition to anyone's closet.
#3 – Freshjive Mockery Cardigan
This is an old brand that had totally done a 180 degree turnaround. Freshjive used to be the premiere stoner t-shirt, and then one day it just disappeared off the radar. Then without warning, Freshjive jumped back on the scene with a renewed soul and some incredible apparel. This sweater is proof of their triumphant return. The Mockery has the look of a letterman jacket, but the soul of a cardigan. Ok, I don’t know what kind of soul it has but it’s a different example of innovation in the sweater world. I haven’t really tried anything on from Freshjive yet, but I will tomorrow. Fear not readers, Freshjive is back and better than ever.
#2 – WeSC Gaspare Cardigan
Finally something I actually own. I purchased this a couple months ago and have been wearing it ever since. It’s a pretty lightweight version and is even great for those cool times of the year. The colors are a light gray and dark gray mix, working well with most tees and jeans. Like all WeSC tops this runs small, so go one size up. There is not much to say, this is just a simple, classic striped cardigan. This is one purchase that will be in your life for the next couple of years.
#1 – Obey Shoreline Naval Sweater
I picked this as number one, because it’s so different from your conventional cardigan sweater. It almost resembles a jacket, but maintains the look of a cardigan. The Shoreline is polyester blend with real nautical metal buttons and multiple pockets. The collar also adds an element you rarely see in most new sweaters today. I applaud Obey work, for thinking outside the box and creating a sweater that looks like a 1920’s steamer ship captain would wear during his down time. I can’t wait to find this in person and see if the fit matches my love for the look. I love cardigans and I love when they aren’t your typical everyday sweater. Thank you Obey!

Nike SB Dunk Mid Dark Army/Sail “Green Bay Packer”
This is not an official Green Bay Packers shoe, because Reebok holds the rights for the NFL. For those of you not familiar with sports in America, the Green Bay Packer are an American Football team from Green Bay, Wisconsin. The Packers are a dominating force in the NFL and are in contention for the Super Bowl this year; they are also my favorite team. These shoes aren’t affiliated with the team, but the color way exactly matches the team color; they’ve been unofficially dubbed the Nike SB Dunk “Green Bay Packers.” These shoes are a mix of dark army green and white, with gold accents. I prefer shoes to be a subtle homage, then a direct advertisement for the team. I would rather find a shoe with my teams colors, then buy a shoe made specifically for my team; that’s just the way my style works. The shoes works great with really dark or rinse jeans and a junk food or retro sport Packers t-shirt. I do own these shoes and they are very comfortable, compared to other mid and high top shoes. They fit exactly like any other dunks you own, so go with whatever size you currently own. They were not an exclusive, so they’re still probably available, just Google the name and look for the best deal. Always look for places that offer coupon codes or free shipping. The SB’s are only sold at shops who also sell skateboards primarily, so you options may be limited. I purchased mine at Tactics Board Shop, but they are sold out now and after researching only select stores are still carrying these shoes. Flight Club La has them for sale from $60 to $75 depending on size. So if you are a true fan of a team and want to represent them in a fashionable manner, then pick these up or look for shoes in your team’s colors. Who knows they might make a shoe in you team’s colors. I was hoping for a Packer’s win today, but the Atlanta Falcons got lucky!

What to Wear - Thanksgiving Edition
Go with a sweater. Doesn't matter if it's a Cardigan or Pullover just dress for the weather if you live in Florida it's going to be hot and if you live in Canada it's probably gonna be really cold; so cotton for Florida and heavy wool for Canada. It also doesn't matter if you choose v-neck or crew neck, that's just a personal preference. I choose to go with a crew neck pullover in Navy by WeSC. The Natan Sweater just dropped and it pretty thick, so if you live in a warmer climate this may not work for you. It's a mostly wool sweater and the most intriguing part, it has a pocket on the left breast like my favorite t-shirts. The sweater just arrived and I am going to try it on tomorrow.
The under shirt should be simple, white, gray or black. The centerpiece is the sweater here. If you wanna wear a button up plaid or flannel is great for the fall weather. Do over think this part of the outfit, as long as the color matches or compliments the sweater; you will do just fine. The Norman pocket tee ( Norman Tee )
is what I picked, in white, to really set off the Navy sweater.
The pants are important because everyone has to wear pants at Thanksgiving, except if you're that weird Uncle that everyone dreads seeing at the holidays. I chose a simple, comfortable jean; the Levi's 501 collaboration with J. Crew. I bought these jeans on an incredible sale and it's my first pair of straight leg jeans from Levi's, I have to tell you that they are so comfortable and the fit is amazing. They are a medium wash jean with a little distressing. Again keep it comfortable, but if you wanna go with skinny's or slim that is up to you. I wouldn't, however, go with anything loose, because it's just too hard to make loose jeans fashionable. Give the jeans a slight roll or even 2 or 3 rolls to really show off the next piece.
To me the shoes can make or break the outfit. Today I wore the Nike Pepper in Rustic ( Pepper ) and they really look awesome, but for this outfit I am going with another classic Nike, that many of you have probably never seen. The Nike Mad Jibe is Nike's answer to the Sperry boat shoe craze. It's a classic boat shoe with leather laces and it's super comfortable. I stumbled upon this last year and instantly fell in love with the shoe. It's light enough to wear on hot days and still rugged enough if the weather is cooperating. It's the perfect boat shoe, no frills or bells and whistle; just simple classic Americana. You can got with any color black, brown or a color that doesn't take away from the sweater. Socks are optional
So what do you think home run or strike out? There is room for variation and interpretation, have fun with the outfit make in your own and enjoy your Thanksgiving. For all my readers who don't celebrate our holiday, there will be regular posts tomorrow. It's trash day tomorrow!!

Junk Food Super Heroes
Junk Food Star Wars Series
Who doesn't love the original Star Wars Trilogy? There was Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Chewbacca, Princess Leia, Yoda and Darth Vader. I was a Star Wars freak; I had the bed sheets and action figures. I used to watch them over and over again. Star Wars shaped my childhood, thank god I wasn't born in the 90's with those other 3 movies. Well what better to commemorate you love for the original 3 movies than buying a trilogy of equally awesome t-shirts. Junk Food has a ridiculous amount Star Wars related designs, I picked my 3 favorite shirts from each movie. The "A New Hope" shirt is a straight movie poster with a vintage feel. It has the old school look of movie posters, back before computer graphics and everything was hand painted. You can call it a work of art. The "Empire Strikes Back" has a more cartoon like concept, also hand painted and strategically vintage in a good way. I love they way Darth Vader looks and how he is in the middle of the picture, since he drops the biggest bombshell in movie history. Last, is the "Return of the Jedi" shirt. This shirt features Luke, Vader and The Emperor which was the epic battle at the end of the film; again the graphic is vintage looking and looks like a painting you would hang in your screening room, if you were wealthy enough to have a screening room.

Top 5 Letterman Jackets - 2010
#5 Black Apple - The Goldfinger Varsity Jacket
I have never heard of Black Apple, until today when I was searching for letterman jackets. This jacket seems a little more fashion forward than the other contestants: The jacket have multiple zippers and a navy base with white sleeves. If you look closely you can see Black Apple signature close pin on the right sleeve, the pin is featured on every jacket. I like the look of the jacket, but I would have to try it on since I am not familiar with this brand. I urge you to check this bad boy out.

#4 Shades of Grey Baseball Jacket
Shades of Grey is a brand that has popped on my radar recently and it looks like it's staying. Shades of Grey is a mixture of New York High Society and Detroit urban flavor. The Baseball Jacket is no exception, with it navy base and brown sleeves and accents. One difference that sets it apart from traditional letterman jackets is the bomber jacket style pockets, at the bottom of the jacket. They are mostly seen in military inspired outerwear, but on this jacket it adds a little class to an otherwise plain jacket. Check out Shades of Grey to upgrade you streetwear to high class.

#3 Nike Sportswear Varsity Destroyer Jacket
You're probably surprised that Nike didn't top my list, like usual. Well this is a great jacket but it's no number one. Nike Sportswear has been designed casual shoes for a while now, if you have bought a non-performance based shoe in the last years, I guarantee it was from the sportswear line. This jacket is one of there gems. It's styled like a more traditional wind breaker jacket crossed with a letterman style jacket. It only comes in purple and red (the red look more orange). I am pretty sure you can find a pair to match the jacket.

#2 WeSC Balker Jacket
I have already done a blog this jacket (Balker Jacket). The came out with a new color port with white sleeves. If I squint and turn my head to the left at a 45 degree angle, I almost like this colorway better than the black and gray.

#1 Obey Dropout Varsity Jacket
Obey makes some absolutely amazing jackets and their attempt at a letterman jackets scores. It's different from most, for instance the quilted sleeves and antique buttons. They call the color black, but it seems more charcoal than black. This jacket looks less letterman and more classic fall jacket. I know I seem to always praise obey, but if you are a fan of their apparel, then you know they have amazing clothes. I haven't been burned once by anything I have purchased and will continue to sing their praises until they jump the clothing shark.

*BONUS POST*
Obey Hillard Varsity Jacket
This is a crazy revolution in letterman jacket technology. A cross between a peacoat and a letterman jacket, at first it looks pretty crazy, but after viewing it a couple time I am starting to like this Frankenstein jacket. I understand how these two elements work together it's kind of like the jean jacket with the leather sleeves. These sleeves are probably not leather since the jacket only costs $124 dollars. Step outside the box with and try this new creation.

It's Trash Day - Trashing All T-Shirts Today!!
I guess I am just talking to a brick wall, because owning a garage full of Ferrari's is more important. There is hope; some companies have figured out how to make t-shirts with their brand displayed but in a tasteful manner and finding them requires the consumers to say, " I am not going to wear this crap anymore." I hope that my readers will join me in doing so and spread the word. If I learned one thing in art class; it's negative space is just as important as the image on the canvas. Let's not take this anymore, let's not settle for the mediocre; use your voice and tell this companies to try something new for once.

Top 5 Nike Classic Basketball Shoes
#5 Nike Air 1/2 Cent Eggplant
So at one point in his career "Penny" Hardaway was a great player, being compared to Jordan. Penny along with Shaq and Horace Grant led the Orlando Magic to the NBA finals, only to get beaten by the Houston Rockets. After that the Magic fell apart and so did Penny; but he did have some awesome looking shoes. The 1/2 Cent was my favorite; most sneakerheads would tell you the Foamposite is the best Penny shoe, but I would have to disagree. The foamposite does look nice but it's too much foam and doesn't have the basketball look. This shoe looks similar to the foamposite but has more of a basketball stance. All in all, Penny may be long gone, but he will always have his shoes to look back on.
#4 - Nike Air CB 34 "Phoenix Sun"
I remember watching Charles Barkley play with the Suns, against the likes of Ewing and Jordan. Now people know Barkley as the TNT commentator or the guy with the worst golf swing in the world. Whatever you know his as he was most dominating power forwards in basketball. This is the classic 90's basketball shoe and even though Barkley wasn't my favorite I still love this shoe; Phoenix colorway and all the classic features. The only drawback is it looks kinda like a dinosaur foot, I guess that made it more intimidating.
#3 Nike Air Flightposite 2
I have seen this shoe more and more recently and at first I thought it was the ugliest shoe, but after seeing it again and again I have grown to respect the shoe. The Nike Flighposite 2 was Kevin Garnett's shoe introduced in 2000 and really pushed the boundaries of the modern shoe. This shoe looks futuristic even 10 years later, the black asphalt look and angular lines; it's almost like the shoe would transform with the push of a button. Even the zipper covering the laces was brilliant, imaging never have to re-tie your laces and keeping a secure fit. The Flightposite has won my heart, with it's technology and sleek look.
#2 Nike Vandal High
The Vandal High reminds me of the shoes guys in 50's used to wear while playing hoops. It has a body like a
Nike Dunk and an Air Force One; it's the strap the reminds me of a classic shoe. The Vandal still looks like a comfortable basketball shoe, even though technology as advanced; unless you're going out for varsity or playing competitively, you don't need $150 dollar shoes. If you are going old school, you really have two choices; the Blazer High or these and I have the Blazers. The Blazers are not very comfortable on your ankle and tend to rub your leg raw. Go old school and show everyone the Vandal still has life on the court.
#1 Nike Air Jordan "Hare Jordan"
The shoe that got away. This time it really did get away or some lucky person got a free pair of the hard to find gems. I ordered the "Hare Jordan" about a year ago and waited for it to arrive at my house and waited and waited; everyday checking the tracking info to see where they had traveled. Finally the day arrived and the shoes were out for delivery, I had to work that night so I wouldn't be home to receive the package; this didn't scare me because they usually drop off package on the door step. I checked on my phone and the package was delivered. I rushed home to see my shoes and nothing; checked the mailboxes and the office, still nothing. I was crushed and it was the last pair, I still have never got over this tragedy. Anyways, the Jordan 1 is the first Air Jordan by Nike and it is the only Air Jordan I love and would wear on any regular day. I know people love their Jordans and get every pair no matter what; well I guess I as more picky then most people. It's the classic shoe from the 80's and doesn't have all the bells and whistle of the new shoes, but who wants a window in the middle of the shoe. Plus these shoes are made to resemble the one Bugs Bunny wears in the movie "Space Jam," and even has his likeness, in classic Air Jordan pose, on the tongue. It's still my favorite basketball shoe of all time and probably will never be dethroned.

*Bonus* Sunday Blog - What to wear this winter,
Socks should be thick and long. You are going to want to wear your boots slightly open and you pants rolled, so sock choice is very important. I would go with a medium gray or off white, tan would clash too much with the pants. I would go stylish, small stripes or little designs. You can find these sock at most retail stores but the ones I really like are Obey's new socks. The Obey Sierra socks come in heather gray or brown, I would go with the gray for this outfit; since you are wearing brown boots. These are socks you wanna show off.
Now comes the pants portion. Khaki pants would be my only option; you can experiment with different colors, but khaki seems to be the best fit. I would stick to skinny or slim, since they will fit into the boots better. You do want to tuck the pants into the boots; not in the tradition sense, but rolled 4 or 5 times and then tucked into the slightly open boots with some sock showing. If you aren't comfortable tucking you jeans or wearing the boots open; you can lace them all the way up and roll the jeans even higher, you want the sock to show. I picked the Levi's 511 Khaki Trousers, they have a really nice fit and look even better when they are rolled a little bit. They are a little more rugged and could last through any outing in the wilderness. If you don't like the skinny fit, then the 514 slim should work as well. Just go with the khakis or the cords.
With shirt you have two options. You can either go with a plain t-shirt; I would stay away from graphic tees, unless it's a very simple graphic tee. The Norman tee, see past blogs, is a wonderful choice. The shirt is just a simple pocket tee. I would stick with white or light color, baby blue or light green. The other shirt option is the one color button down; again I would stick with light blue or white. You can wear plaid or pattern shirts if you aren't going to wear a sweater or jacket, but since it's going to be cold and wet go with a second layer. Whatever you decide, make sure it matches the rest of your outfit.
The last layer is the sweater or jacket. This option isn't necessary, but it will make the outfit in most cases. There are also three options cardigan, sweater or light jacket. Cardigan's are becoming increasingly popular; they used to be reserved for professors or father's from the 50's and 60's. Now cardigans are for everyone, the designs have improved and so have the materials. The materials range from cotton to wool to cashmere; I wouldn't recommend cashmere if you are going to be hiking through the woods. Stick with cotton or wool, depending on your climates; obviously cotton for warmer locations and wool for the colder climates. Wearing a sweater doesn't mean it's time to break out you favorite Christmas sweater; stick with muted colors and if you are going with a pattern, please nothing too crazy. A few stripes or patterns will make the outfit work. Jacket's should be basic and one color. Go with a gray peacoat for this outfit.
You can wear a hat or beanie, but I don't look good in beanie and I don't like those crazy Russian style hats. It's up to you if you wanna add the hat. This complete outfit, to me, is the quintessential winter outdoor outfit. Whether you are going on a hike or just braving the elements, why shouldn't you do this in style. Just because the weather is bad, doesn't mean you outfit should be bad. I will be posting a pic of me wearing this type of outfit, stay tuned into the "Thread."
